Iran’s annual pistachio exports exceed $700m

TEHRAN – Iran’s value of pistachio exports stood at $721 million in the last Iranian calendar year (ended March 20, 2009), showing a 43 percent fall compared to the year before.

Iranian pistachios were exported to 68 countries, with Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, Germany, and Russia as the major customers importing 56 percent of the product, according to the Mehr News Agency.
In the calendar year ended in March 2008, Iran’s pistachio exports valued at some $1.3 billion and were exported to 79 countries.
The figure also shows a 48 percent drop in terms of weight reaching 104,848 tons in the last year from the previous amount of 202,819 tons.
Iran is the largest producer and exporter of pistachio. Iranian pistachio has the best taste and quality among other pistachio producing countries like the United States and Turkey
